With numerous accolades and tens of thousands of downloads, it’s hard to say anything about Citymapper that hasn’t already been said.

The self-proclaimed “Ultimate Transport App” burst onto the scene, winning the MTA App Quest competition in 2013, and the heart of many a commuter. With this in mind, we’ve decided to highlight a few of the key features that have made Citymapper as a must-have in the phone of every New Yorker.

1. Know Where You Stand

As New Yorkers, the immediate draw to the app starts with the Best Section feature, which tells you what part of the train to get on in order to most conveniently exit the platform.

No longer must young transplants covet the knowledge of long-time residents who seem to inexplicably know where to stand in every station of the city.

2. Use The Freakin Bus

We’ll admit it, we don’t ride the bus…ever. We tried once to figure out where to get picked up, where to ride, and how long it’ll take, and we ended up crying on the floor of Port Authority.

No worries, Citymapper will show you the buses in your area, where they go, and how often they arrive. From all of us used to dealing with subway delays, thank you.

3. My Hair (Rain-Free Trip)

We’ll be honest, we might have a slight vanity issue with our hair. That’s why when we saw the Citymapper Rain Safe routing, we were ecstatic.

Gone are the days of awkward umbrella carrying and drenched raincoats. Thank you Citymapper.

4. Offline Maps

Physical maps disappeared with the concept of retirement savings in the late 90’s. Unfortunately for those underground without internet access, this can be a bit of a problem. That’s why we love that Citymapper downloads all of the NYC MTA Apps for offline use automatically.

This one’s crucial for us, an app that works offline, so simple…so desperately necessary. Check out their app at Citymapper.com
